Above: One of my illustrations, Saint Walborga and the Miracle of the Tempest Tossed Boat
Thus far, I've not included color in any of my jewelry design. I love the aestehtic of metal in its own right, and I enjoy the tone-on-tone/blind emboss look of etched metal without any color. But lately, I've been itching to explore enameling and colored stones. Recently, I stumbled upon this older illustration of mine, and it got me wondering where color might take my metalwork. In this illustration, I can envision how green stones or painterly green enamels could bring new depth to my work in golden bronze. For now, I'll stay focussed on growing my etching techniques, but I see jade, aventurine and peacock green enamels on the horizon.
