Where Bluebirds Brood

Where Bluebirds Brood
Cuff bracelet set, 2017
Sterling silver, bronze, pyrite, steel, original poem; etched, torch fired, lost wax cast, hand fabricated.

Designed as a story told in three chapters, this cuff bracelet set is based on a snapshot of an unidentified man that I found among family ephemera. The fabricated story begins with the man's goodbye, then moves on to his voyage overseas, and ends in the German fields of World War II. One of the elements of the large piece is one of my original poems, Called Where Bluebirds Brood:

Where Bluebirds Brood

Such happiness had I with you that
bluebirds brood and vie
to rest where once you whispered–
to nest among the shape where, a moment stayed your cheek–
to sing the air where scent of your hair fades–
and bathe in light that falls
where you cannot sleep.
