Born

On this day in between days
just when winter seemed it would never end
an Iris unfolded from under the snow
and gave to the world
her blossom
that held within it
the sympathy of the early sun
the patience of the searching root
the kindness caught in each drop
that gives to the waiting seeds
and bulbs, shy and sleeping,
the will to awaken.
