Though Spring was bursting outside, everything was wrong. The sun didn't seem right. It was too small, as though drifting away. Shadows cut at strange angles, and the flowers were too bright like in a memory, or a dream. As the pandemic spread and my anxiety rose, I found myself thinking often of my happy childhood in rural Ohio, and the lilacs on my grandmother's farm.
This pendant is one of a collection of works journaling my experience of the coronavirus pandemic while sheltering alone. I created this enameled image by “painting” with gold foil, tiny brushes and powdered glass, then heating with a torch to fuse it to metal.
