While sheltering alone during the earliest weeks of the 2020 pandemic, I often found my thoughts folding in on themselves, spiraling into confusion. In this piece, I tried to express both the experience of sheltering alone and the chaos of thoughts exploding like a dust storm in my mind.
The focal of this piece is an isolated golden "thought storm" that glows from within a darkened chamber. The imagery in this piece is abstracted rather than figurative, which is rare in my work.
This ring is part of a collection of art jewelry works journaling my experience of the coronavirus pandemic while sheltering alone. I created the enameled focal point of this piece by “painting” with 24k gold, tiny brushes, and powdered glass, then heating with a torch to fuse them together on metal.
