It seems our true strength is often revealed only when we think we are at our weakest. This scene – shown from the perspective of a swimmer in a stormy sea – captures the moment we find our courage. As I painted the waves, I was reminded of the “Fisherman’s Prayer,” a quote that often comes into my mind when I am afraid and overwhelmed:
“O God, thy sea is so great, and my boat is so small.”
These pendants are completely handmade. The enameled piece features my original one-of-a-kind glass painting of rising waves with a fine silver sun hanging low in the sky. I created the original one-of-a-kind glass scene using tiny brushes to "paint" with finely ground glass and water and fused it with a torch. It is a little less than 3/4" wide, and I set in a handmade sterling silver prong setting alongside a smaller solid silver medallion which I etched with the fisherman's prayer; the medallion is pitted and distressed to add the look of a coin rescued from a sunken ship.
The medallions are suspended together from an 18” solid sterling silver rolo chain with an S-hook pinch clasp, and it makes a subtle and satisfying tinkling sound when worn.
